Skaapie the sheep
Skaapie, meaning 'weakling' or 'little lamb' in Afrikaans, is named after the young Jacob lamb we met at just a few days old. Rejected by her mum, she was being hand-reared and enjoying life as a free-range house-lamb, daintily tottering along tiled floors and muzzling her human mum's ankles while being completely ignored by the resident cat. Skaapie made excellent progress and the following year, now living as an outdoor ewe, came to stay with us on Wrenwood meadow, bringing several of her relatives for company.
